Common Permit to Work Refresher – Online

This online course provides students with an update on current best practice for CPTW and opportunity to confirm continued competency in completion of permits. Delivered following the CPTW User Group Guidelines.

Certification

After successful completion of the online course you will be issued with an electronic badge. Before we can issue you with a formal CPTW Refresher Certificate you will be asked to contact Wood Training with proof of identity.

Course Content

The course focuses on:

  • PTW legal requirements.
  • Roles and responsibilities.
  • Work requiring / not requiring a PTW.
  • Permits: hot work, 1, hot work 2, cold work, confined space entry.
  • Certificates: excavation, isolation, gas free.
  • Associated documentation.
  • Permit completion, validity and endorsement.
  • Risk assessment.
  • Permit endorsement.
  • Permit cancellation.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate current knowledge of the CPTW system.
  • Carry out two permits in compliance with the CPTW system.

Course structure

This course is an online course.

After you contact Wood Training, we will send you a confirmation email with a self-enrolment key. You will be prompted in the system to set up a profile, with information that we need for your enrolment.

You will need to have:

  • Access to a computer and stable internet
  • An email address

Prerequisites

Current NZQA US 17588 that was provided in the Common Permit to Work System. For those not experienced in the CPTW system or use other systems, contact Wood Training for information regarding suitable courses.

Assessment process

It consists of online learning modules that you work through at your own pace. At the very end of the course are summative assessment tasks and and a requirement to complete an attestation that is signed by your workplace supervisor (and endorsement by a Permit Issuer or Responsible Operations Supervisor). If you are not able to have a CPTW PI/ROS (from the CPTW Group) endorse the attestation contact Wood Training. Practical requirements can be met by attending a practical session at our facilities (cost to be advised).

Revalidation/Refresher

To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Current CPTW system requirements are every three years.
