Forklift Operator (WorkSafe NZ) Certification

This course enables students to obtain knowledge of the safe operation of a forklift and the legal obligations pertaining to that plant in a place of work. Skills in the completion of pre- operational checks prior to operations, parking and shutting down a forklift will be taught.

Certification

Forklift operator certification (Worksafe NZ, formerly OSH) will be awarded to students. Students who have met all unit standard requirements will be awarded US10851.

Course Content

The course focuses on:

  • Health and safety legislative requirements.
  • Operating parameters.
  • Environmental conditions.
  • Consumable replacing procedures.
  • Fault reporting.
  • Pre-operational inspections.
  • Carrying out pre-operational checks and inspections.
  • Conducting start-up procedure.
  • Forklift practical skills.
  • Parking forklift.
  • Shutdown of forklift.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the safe operation of a forklift.
  • Perform a pre-operational inspection and start up procedure for a forklift.
  • Demonstrate practical forklift skills.
  • Park and shut down a forklift.

Course structure

A combination of theoretical and practical training and assessment.

Course prerequisites

Some forklift operator experience is essential.

Assessment process

Theory assessment followed by practical assessment which takes place when student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required. Assessment involves operating a Forklift without a load and stacking and de-staking a load.

Revalidation/Refresher

Certification refresher every three years as per the Approved Code of Practice for Training Operators and Instructors of Powered Industrial Lift Tucks (Forklifts), and Competenz ITO requirements.

Items to bring

  • Photo ID.
  • Comfortable clothing with covered footwear suitable for classroom situation.
  • PPE requirements for practical: Safety boots and all other PPE will be supplied.

Special notes

This course alone does not allow students to obtain certification or unit standard proficiency for driving on a road. To drive on a road, students must obtain US18496 “F Endorsement (Forklift)”. Please contact us for more information.

There isn’t much that Bob can’t drive or operate.  Bob is a MITO, and Connexis registered assessor, a Competenz registered Forklift Trainer and an NZTA approved assessor.  Bob started his career as a Driver/Operator within the Transport and Building Industries and has spent the last 20 years training people on safe driving and operating equipment.  He believes in giving the right information to the candidate so that they can make the right decisions out there in the workplace, that teaching the safe use of heavy machinery includes a strong approach to forming a safety culture at their workplace so that the operator goes home safe every day.
