Workplace Safety Plus

This course provides students with knowledge of basic work- place safety, an understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the skills needed to then apply key princi- ples in the workplace. It will also provide an overview on the responsibilities of people in the workforce including steps to take to ensure the safety of themselves and others. Given a scenario students will be able to complete a job safety analysis.

Certification

A Workplace Safety Plus certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course.

Course Content

The course focuses on:

  • Health and Safety At Work Act 2015.
  • Principle systems.
  • Risk and hazard management.
  • Safe work practices.
  • Risk assessment.
  • Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Methods of communication in the workplace.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify and describe legislative rights and responsibilities for workplace health and safety.
  • Describe the systems approach to workplace health and safety.
  • Explain how risks and hazards are defined in the HSWA 2015.
  • Identify the principles of workplace safety in a given workplace and demonstrate safe work practices in a specific workplace.
  • Complete a simple job safety analysis (JSA).

Related training

Competency in US 497, US 17593 and additional Job Safety Analysis component in this course at Wood Training will be accepted as meeting the hazard management prerequisite for our Common Permit to Work training.

Course prerequisites

Students must be in work.

Assessment process

Theory assessment which takes place when student is ready. This include completion of a JSA based on a scenario provided.

Revalidation/Refresher

To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every two years.

Items to bring

  • Photo ID.
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for participating in practical exercises.
  • Appropriate streetwear can be worn.
  • You must bring to the course the information your organisation provided to you that identifies the staff instructions regarding H&S policies and procedures. This information is generally provided in an induction procedure or similar document.

Consultant, Training Facilitator and company director, Mal has a history of work in the oil and gas sector, process operation and hazard management.  He has extensive experience in many roles in the workforce and brings authentic experience to the training situation.  With a background in physics, chemistry, statistics and human anatomy he knows his subject matter well, and this knowledge and experience comes to the fore in his training and delivery.
