NZ First Aid Revalidation Certificate

This course provides students with a refresher on the knowledge and skills needed to perform CPR and manage common medical and trauma in emergency situations.
For holders of Unit Standards 6400, 6401 & 6402

Certification

A Revalidation certificate that relates to the unit standards being revalidated will be issued on successful completion of this course: 6400-6402: New Zealand First Aid Revalidation Certificate

Course Content

The course focuses on:

  • Scene assessment.
  • Primary assessment/DRSABCD.
  • cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Bleeding, shock/burns/heart attack/stroke
  • Fracture/spinal injury/heat emergency/electrical burns/spinal injury/allergy (NZ First Aid Certificate Revalidation)

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course students will be able to:

  • perform two rounds of CPR for an adult/child and an infant.
  • Provide first aid relevant to two given scenarios

Course structure

The course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course.

Course prerequisites

A current New Zealand First Aid Certificate (6400, 6401, 6402) or First Aid Refresher certificate that are no older than two years and three months or a documented equivalent that is deemed acceptable by Wood Training.

Assessment process

Short quizzes followed by practical assessment which takes place when the student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required.  The assessment will involve first aid scenario in adult and infant CPR and practical scenarios relevant to the first aid certificate held.

Revalidation/Refresher

To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly.  NZQA and Toitū te Waiora identify this as every two years.

  • Photo ID.
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for participating in practical exercises.
  • Covered-in footwear.

Jenny's career started with the RNZN and then transferred to the RNZAF.  She has spent 13 years on the road as an Emergency Medical Technician with the TDHB & St John.  For the last 15 years Jenny's career changed to being a First Aid Instructor.  In that time she was also a Health Consultant for 3.5 years being involved with Annual Health/Medical monitoring.  Jenny holds various qualifications in Pre Hospital Emergency Care and Adult Education & Training.
