Helicopter Deck Firefighter Refresher

This course provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate continued competency in the skills required to function effectively and safely as a Helicopter Deck Firefighter.

Certification

A Helideck Firefighter Refresher certificate will be issued on successful completion of the course.

Course Content

The course focuses on:

  • Role and responsibilities of a helicopter deck firefighter.
  • Helideck emergency response planning
  • Offshore helideck emergencies
  • Goals and objectives
  • manned and NUI response
  • Helideck access and egress
  • Communication at all levels
  • Understanding the role of the ORL
  • Emergency response and fire fighting
  • SCBA use and operation
  • External and internal SAR
  • Non fire response
  • Effective use of all firefighting equipment
  • Working with ERT back up
  • Hose running
  • Helideck firefighting equipment
  • Helicopter crash/rescue equipment
  • Familiarity with different helicopter types and their operation and emergency procedures
  • Familiarity with management of dangerous goods.
  • Shutdown and security of aircraft on helideck.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • operate safely and communicate effectively while carrying out duties of a Helicopter Deck Firefighter

Course structure

The course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course.

Course prerequisites

Completion of the Helideck Firefighter course including
unit standards 3271, 4647
Participants are required to sign a declaration that they are in good health (have no medical, physical or psychological conditions that would affect their ability to succeed in this training) OR provide a current (less than 6 months old) medical certificate.

Assessment process

Practical assessment which takes place when the student is ready/has shown that they can perform all tasks required.

Revalidation

To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Depending on the industry you work in this may vary. Current Wood Training recommendation is every two years.

Items to bring

  • Photo ID.
  • Covered-in footwear.
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for wearing under Fire Fighting attire.
  • Socks.
  • Water bottle.
  • Change of clothes and towel for available shower.

Health

A Medical is mandatory prior to the course commencement and ability to work in confined spaces.

Research shows that you are more susceptible to heat distress disorders if you consume alcohol within 24 hours of training with live fire. We recommend you do not consume alcohol 24 hours before training nor over the days of training”
