Common Permit to Work – Refresher

This course provide students with an update on current best practice for CPTW and opportunity to demonstrate continued competency in completion of permits. Delivered following the CPTW User Group Guidelines.

Certification

A Common Permit to Work Refresher certificate will be issued on successful completion of all assessment requirements.

Course Content

The course focuses on:

  • PTW legal requirements.
  • Roles and responsibilities.
  • Work requiring / not requiring a PTW.
  • Permits: hot work, 1, hot work 2, cold work, confined space entry.
  • Certificates: excavation, isolation, gas free.
  • Associated documentation.
  • Permit completion, validity and endorsement.
  • Risk assessment.
  • Permit endorsement.
  • Permit cancellation.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate current knowledge of the CPTW system.
  • Carry out two permits in compliance with the CPTW system.

Course structure

The course is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. Students are assessed continuously during the course.

Assessment process

Theory assessment followed by practical assessment which takes place when student is ready/has shown that they can per- form all tasks required. The practical consists of a simulated practical assessment including two completed CPTW permits signed off by the assessor on the training day.

Revalidation/Refresher

To maintain current competency, it is recommended that refresher training occurs regularly. Current CPTW system requirements are every three years.

Prerequisites

Current NZQA US 17588 that was provided in the Common Permit to Work System. For those not experienced in the CPTW system or use other systems, contact Wood Training for information regarding suitable courses.

  • Photo ID.
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for participating in practical exercises.
  • Covered-in footwear.
  • You may bring two completed CPTW permits or complete on the training day.
